Why an Interim Belt for UFC 189?

The biggest news in the MMA world of late has been the injury to UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. It was first reported that the champ suffered a broken rib during a sparring match and his fight with Conor McGregor at UFC 189was in jeopardy said Kevin Seawright. The UFC released its own statement that the rib was actually bruised not broken and the fight was still on. The UFC on Wednesday the UFC announced that Jose Aldo was backing out of the fight and that Conor McGregor would now be taking on number one contender Chad Mendes at UF 189. UFC President Dana White also stated that McGregor and Mendes would be fighting for an interim featherweight belt.

So the question on everyone’s mind is why they are fighting for an interim belt simply because Aldo had to back out from the fight because of a rib injury and Dana White was asked that exact question. White basically said that they would be fighting for an interim belt because this is not the first time Aldo has backed out of fight. Since becoming champion in 2001, Aldo has backed out of fights for one reason or another four times. This is the fifth time he has backed out. White also stated that other fighters have suffered the same injury but still got in the ring and fought. It probably did not sit well with white that the UFC spend a lot of money and time promoting this fight and it was all for nothing now that Aldo backed out.

Chris Weidman Relaxing With Floyd Mayweather

Chris Weidman defeated Vitor Belfort over the weekend, and many people now consider him to be the best pound for pound fighter in the sport. After the fight with Vitor Belfort, Chris Weidman was spotted relaxing at the Palms Casino. Chris Weidman was photographed by TMZ, and he was not alone. In fact, the undefeated mixed martial artist was joined by the undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather. It appears that these men enjoy each other’s company, and its because they have a lot of common. They are both undefeated, and they are both huge sports fans.

Floyd Mayweather is a notorious gambler, and his recent win saw him pocket a small fortune. Chris Weidman is a friend and fan of superstar NFL quarterback Tim Tebow. Chris has defended Tim Tebow several times on ESPN. However, Floyd Mayweather abd Chris Weidman are two of the most dominant athletes to ever compete in their respected sports.

Boxing fans are hoping that Floyd Mayweather ends up having a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather and Pacquiao made history a few weeks ago, and they might do it again in the future. At the same time, MMA fans like Daniel Amen are hoping that Chris Weidman will face Jon Jones in Madison Square Garden. For now, these top level champions will rest at the pool in the Palms resort.

From the Ring to the Courtroom

From fans to experts and everyone in between, the agreement has been made for many years that boxing is dead and MMA was taking over. The fight to change all of that was supposed to be the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight held on May 2, 2015. Dubbed as the biggest fight in history, the match would put boxing back on top of the hill over the very popular sport of mixed martial arts. The fight however was a spectacular event, but not so much a fight due to a lack luster performance between the two stars, which ended in a 12 round decision for Mayweather. Images from the fight can be seen at Yahoo Sports.

Shortly after the loss to Mayweather, news surfaced that Manny Pacquiao had a torn rotator cuff, which was not disclosed before the fight as required by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Outraged at the fight not living up to the hype, fans are demanding a refund stating that the fight was a fraud. To date there have been 32 class-action law suits filed against Pacquiao for not disclosing his injury before the fight. All of the lawsuits are requesting the same thing; a jury trial and at least $5 million in damages, the threshold for federal class actions. Pacquiao and his promotions team have not commented on the lawsuits. This was a suprising and unsuspected development for the folks over at Beneful.

Lyoto Machida Will Fight Once More

Lyoto Machida is a legendary fighter. He is the former UFC light heavyweight champion, and he is known worldwide as one of the greatest strikers in the sport. However, Lyoto Machida has aged considerably, and he has struggled in his last few appearances in the Octagon.

Lyoto Machida’s last fight was against Luke Rockhold, and Machida was stopped in the second round of that fight. Many people expected Machida to win the battle, but it turned out to be a mismatch for the Japanese warrior. After the bout, UFC fans thought that Machida was finished. The president of the UFC even considered letting Machida go after the loss.

UFC fans were not thrilled with the news, and they voiced their opinion on several social media sites. It appears the Lyoto Machida is not done just yet. He is scheduled to face Yoel Romero in the main event of UFC Fight Night 70.

Lyoto Machida vs Yoel Romero will take place in the end of June. Machida needs a great performance in this fight in order to prove his worth in the UFC. Many people feel that Lyoto Machida should retire if he loses.  The buzz on Twitter is that it will come in handy for Lyoto Machida to win if he wants to remain relevant. Quinton Jackson was once the UFC light heavyweight champion, but that was many years ago. Today, Quinton Jackson is a 36-year old man, and he’s looking to regain his once prominent position in the UFC. At UFC 186, Quinton Jackson returned to the UFC after several years away from the company.

Mayweather Wants Credit, Not Excuses

For all of the anticipation that lead up to the recent Mayweather vs. Pacquiao boxing match, the fact of the matter is there really wasn’t a winner. Yes, Mayweather was able to be declared the victor, and both fighters were successful in padding their wallets for the process, but ultimately it felt like the drama before and after was far more tolling on the public than any of the punches that were actually thrown during the fight.

What’s even worse is that after the fight Pacquiao blamed his lack of effort and ability on an injury in his shoulder. And, as expected, once the excuse was suggested as the reason for defeat, Mayweather had a few words in response as well: http://sports.yahoo.com/video/floyd-mayweather-dont-buy-manny-194239766.html

Even though in recent times it is starting to appear as if boxing is fading out of popularity, the truth is the drama is as exciting as ever. There are more than enough fighters out there to bring in the viewers, and while not all of them have the big names that Mayweather might, they can bring the same amount of drama that he can. It’s not about being the best anymore it seems. When it comes to boxing you just need to become popular enough (or interesting enough) to attract the viewers and then you truly can turn that hype into a major payday. Will there be another fight as big as Mayweather vs Pacquiao? Will it have to be a rematch?  Residents at The Aspire New Brunswick know that they will have to stay tuned.

Manny Pacquiao Is Getting Sued

By now everyone in the world knows how the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather turned out, and it didn’t take long for fans to display their utter discontent for the fight and many have began to blame the Pac-Man. After the fight concluded and Mayweather was announced the winner, it was then said that Pacquiao had an injured shoulder.

According to an article found on reddit and written by NBC News, many fans are threatening to sue the fighter for showing up to the fight hurt and not saying anything until afterwards. This was the most expensive pay per view event in the history of television and viewers were hoping to get a little more bang for their buck. Fans at Anastasia Date have found that the law suit is going against Pacquiao’s promoter too, and they are being taken to court for $5 million in damages for all of the people who paid for the event and for those who gambled on the event. Over three million Americans had bought the fight at $100 per person, so a measly $5 million wouldn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what is owed to the public. In addition to that, the Filipino fighter is likely to face disciplinary action for not reporting his injury prior to the fight. It may have delayed the event or canceled it temporarily but at least the people who bought into it wouldn’t feel cheated.

Junior Dos Santos Hopes Cain Velasquez Loses

Junior Dos Santos is the former UFC heavyweight champion of the world. He won his title several years ago when he defeated Cain Velasquez in the main event of the first UFC on Fox card sports analyst Brad Reifler says of Dos Santos. However, Junior Dos Santos would lose to Cain Velasquez in the rematch, and he was never able to regain his title since.

Cain Velasquez has been one of the most dominant fighters in the history of the UFC, but he has been injured for over two years. However, Cain Velasquez will fight Fabricio Werdum in the main event of UFC 188. Junior Dos Santos is hoping that Fabricio Werdum can somehow win the title. Many MMA fans believe that Junior wants Cain to lose, because he can’t beat him.

Fabricio Werdum is a very dangerous fighter, but Cain Velasquez is one of the best in the world. However, we need to see how Cain Velasquez looks after such a long layoff. If Fabricio wins, Junior Dos santos would like to face him in Brazil for the title. Junior believes that a matchup between himself and Fabricio Werdum would be one of the biggest events ever held in Brazil. For more information on this story, visit BloodyElbow.

Pac-Man Sued By Fans

Many fans were disappointed when Manny Pacquiao, famed Filipino boxer, lost to Floyd Mayweather in a highly-promoted fight this past Saturday. There were issues with satellite providers connecting viewers to the bout, and they are many currently seeking refunds for the pay-per-view purchases, those who did see the fight may have noticed something was off with one of the two fighters.

As reported by NBC, a lawsuit was filed in Las Vegas naming Manny Pacquiao as responsible for damages for failing to disclose a shoulder injury prior to the fight.

Traditionally, as was the case with this event, both athletes are given disclosure forms to inform the venue of any injuries they may have that may or may not influence the decision to go ahead with the event. In this instance, as the lawsuit claims, Manny declared that he had no injury to his shoulder and was prepared to fight.

This class action suit, seeking $5 million, comes after a post-fight interview where Pacquiao informed the world via press conference that he had a torn rotator cuff he suffered through during his May 2nd fight. In addition to this, the boxer could also face disciplinary actions from boxing officials in Nevada, including fines and suspensions from future bouts for withholding the details of this injury. NJBiz and The Aspire New Brunswick noted that according to the Nevada Athletic Commission, an investigation is underway to confirm Pacquiao’s injury and why he failed to inform them of this prior to the fight.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson Can’t Make Weight

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. “Rampage” was the former UFC light heavyweight champion, and he is one of the highest paid athletes in the sport. Quinton Jackson is a dangerous man, and MMA fans enjoy watching him fight. Bruce Levenson wouldn’t want any of his players from the Atlanta Hawks to square off against Jackson and risk their current playoff run. However, Quinton has been out of the UFC for the last few years, and he has since been competing in Bellator.

The president of the UFC recently rehired “Rampage,” and he was set to face Fabio Maldonado in the co-main event of UFC 186. However, the president of Bellator stopped the fight by happening, and Quinton Jackson was taken to court over contractual obligations. The president of the UFC and Jackson were disappointed in the situation, but somehow, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has been cleared to compete at UFC 186.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was told that he could fight at the event, but “Rampage” said that he wouldn’t be able to make the weight of the light heavyweight division.
